It is the philosophy and approach of Aikido that appeals to me and I put to practice in my day to day activities and work.
My karate teacher once said: we train to prevent any fight, but if we must, we go for total annihilation. After training many years I learned that some people I will be able to defeat in a fight, but definitely not all. I also learned that though I the fights I won, I suffered injuries too.
"You can win a fight or war only on short term. In a fight or war, all parties loose in the long run."
Aikido is different, like agile way of working is different to the hierarchical approach. The difference starts already in the mindset, where Aikido is a martial art to train yourself in the way of living in harmony and in peace. It uses that martial art component to let the person experience the highest pressure possible: escape death. In doing so, we do not harm the attacker, nor let we harm ourselves. As each person differs, so differs each attack and therefore each situation. The practice allows you to cope with more and more situations: to stay calm and fully relaxed in your full potentional as human being. To give the best you can as a human being in any circumstance while experiencing your time on earth in joy.
